Trader Joe's at Steelyard Commons?

I created an online petition that I'd like to submit to Trader Joe's corporate headquarters to try to encourage them to open a store in our neighborhood. Obviously, the choice location would be Steelyard Commons because of the other stores and traffic to the shopping site. I realize there are other grocery store options (Wal*Mart, Target) but not as healthy or diverse as Trader Joe's. I feel strongly this store would not step on Dave's Supermarket or the Westside Market toes and would do great in the neighborhood. Honestly, I'm also just sick of driving to Westlake to shop at a store that should be closer to an urban setting.

walmart is nOt a grocery

walmart is nOt a grocery store - food is not a chemical...

why can't people understand you should not put that crap into your body? even their *fresh* produce is chemical laden and their *fresh* meat has more hormones than a pregnant 13 year old.

people are so stupid. (sorry for the negativity IT'S TRUE!)

Save yourself the trip and

Save yourself the trip and surrender to the ALDIs experience in Brooklyn Centre. ALDIs is the poor man's Trader Joe's. Really, you'll be surprised. The wine is not half bad and the vegetables are better than Trader Joe's. Looks to me that the petition is just a veiled attempt to collect marketing data, but I signed it for you anyways. Good luck.

Putting Trader Joe;s atop

Putting Trader Joe;s atop the chemical ridden soil at Steel Yard Commons wouldn't keep the food from becoming contaminated. Did any of you read the article in the Plain Dealer today (Thursday) about Home Depot, at Steel Yard being checked for chemical contamination??? The soil under the building may still be contaminated.

We would welcome a Trader

We would welcome a Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or Mustard Seed to the Tremont area. They offer many products not available in our local grocers. We travel each week to shop at theses stores, as well as to the West Side Market, Daves, and the various local farmers markets. We will sign Beccas petition to Trader Joes.

The Plain Dealer said that

The Plain Dealer said that Home Depot cleaned up the brownfield to the satisfaction of the Ohio EPA. As in, the soil is no longer contaminated. Did you read the article, curious? Here it is; nice try though.

Awhile back, we met a wine

Awhile back, we met a wine distributor who mentioned that Stark will be adding Trader Joe's to his downtown development. Stark has Trader's Joes at Crocker Park and Eton Square. You'll see the same concept downtown soon. So, never fear. Meanwhile, why don't you mingle with the real people at the West Side Market or ALDI's. Seriously, if you drive to Westlake, you are killing the planet.

yeah, and actually, Trader

yeah, and actually, Trader Joe's isn't tHAt natural/organic. If you read their labels, they do quite a bit of processing. I did sign the petition though, the near-west/downtown area has been in dire need of a natural foods store. Dave's tries, but they just don't quite get it. and they did away with all their Burt's Bees and Mrs. Mitchell's, so I'd rather go somewhere I can buy those product lines because I love them (although I think Protor Gamble bought out Burt's).

I also agree, its important to buy local. The one stand at the market, in the newer wing that stretches to Lorain, and with the "organic" banner was the first to bring organic produce to the market and they are very nice people. I've never gotten rotten anything from them.

Communities: from staff

Communities: from staff reports (Cleveland Plain Dealer) Thursday, Jan 24,2008

"The EPA also filed an environmental agreement with the company, agreeing never to sue Home Depot over toxins found on the site, but also prohibiting any future extration of ground water from the site."

hmmmm, perhaps someone just read the Headline??? This doesn't sound like it's SAFE!

That's it! I'm never eating

That's it! I'm never eating treated wood, paint or caulk from Home Depot until they clean up for sure!

Seriously though folks, if you think the worst chemicals you're ingesting from processed food bought at WalMart, Target or, heaven forbid, one of the chain restaurants (Chipotle included) is coming from the soil beneath the concrete floor you may want to check out the book "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan.

I'll see you all at the West Side Market and the farmer's market.

I doubt that Stark's project

I doubt that Stark's project will ever get off the ground. So much for a Trader Joe's downtown. The comments indicate he is being sewed by his fellow businessmen at Crocker full of sh*t park and Eaton sh*t centre.

http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/01/stark_reassessing_warehouse_di.html

This has been going on for how long, much hunch is it will never happen.

Stark's project may never

Stark's project may never get off the ground but I'll bet he can spell better than you!!

Would a downtown Trader Joes

Would a downtown Trader Joes compete with Constantine's Market? That already features wines, beer, organics and is on West 9th.

ever hear of the west side

ever hear of the west side market????!!  why is everyone trying to yuppify tremont/ohio city???  stay in the burbs....

I think Councilman Joe

I think Councilman Joe Santiago may support “Trader Joe’s”He is a Chef or something… maybe he will get on the ban wagon.

Although he may not want to be linked to that name because that is what his continuants in Ohio City are calling him regarding the Club Moda / Hush scandal.

If you believe what you read in the PD tip-off today not only was Santiago involved with the drug dealers that ran club Moda (we know that because his name was on the marquee the day they were shut down by the DEA ) but so was his father. (How else would their property end up in “Trader Joe’s” back yard?   …… literally!

I wonder how much drug and DNA residue are on that statue.  Good Luck with the real Trader Joe’s

Don't worry Tremont or Ohio

Don't worry Tremont or Ohio City wont' be yuppified for at least 50 years.

thx Char - I was looking for

thx Char - I was looking for that PD link...absolutely amazing - how sTUpid does that man (Santiago) think other people are? Clearly not as stupid as he - after all the scrutiny he has seen questioning his ethics and behavior as a councilman - wHY would he even CONSIder putting that stupid butt-ugly MODA statue in his backyard???????! How STUPID. good god....

and the owners of Moda - at a public hearing regarding their trying to bring a new nightclub into the building (when they have other potential, non-nightclub leasors begging to rent or buy the place) they were absolutely insolent and arrogant towards their neighbors. Absolutely refused to accept any responsibility for their failure to behave as respectable and responsible landlords in the Moda debacle. ...one actually chastized a resident with children for complaining - he said "You live in the city, what do you expect? I raise my children in the (exurbs)" horrifying.........

I just drove by on my lunch

I just drove by on my lunch hour to check it out.  What a dumbass. ( Santiago, not the statue.)

D’bra   He thinks we

D’bra

He thinks we are all stupid, he really does.  He has been quoted as saying things like this Ward is so full of the “poor and ignorant people”.  While it may be true the ward is poor and undereducated as well as disenfranchised.

He is really is taking a big leap when he puts himself out there as the savvy educated mover and shaker  in this ward much less this city.

You would think you would move to improve our ward if you were the councilman.

Supporting Bars like Moda, Hush and the El Tropical as well as the La Copa.

Joe is supporting the bars and nightclubs because he owes  a lot of people (he may not any choice)   the collective owners of these businesses have given him Thousands of dollars (now they own him) ….. (Let’s not even talk about how much he owes to the slimy city Council President)

It sad for the residents that we have a councilman that is a proponent of business’s that only bring pain and suffering to the residents.

Char

It’s not a nice thing to

It’s not a nice thing to admit but people will have to pay the price for not getting out and voting for the Recall.  That’s all there is to it!!!

I was talking to someone who is usually in the “Know” and they say that one way or another he going to get a night club in there.

I wonder if he will be at the Tremont annually meeting now that he and “Super Joe Cimperman” are at odds. Santiago is not even supporting Cimperman in his election bid.

I’m looking forward to the meeting and seeing how Santiago or Cimperman as well as TWDC for that matter, are going to support the “MASTER PLAN”.

How will they try to convince us the eminent domain is the way to salvation?

What local developer is pushing for the demolishing of family homes and how much will he gain???  Ask yourself that before you vote for any one or anything at the meeting.

See you there
